A woman was taken to the hospital after being shot in the 1500 block of Kerlerec Street shortly after 5:10 a.m. Friday, and police say a suspect was taken into custody not long after. The shooting occurred in New Orleans’ 7th Ward, even as citywide violence trends downward.
According to WDSU, New Orleans police investigated the shooting after the injured woman was taken to the hospital. Her current condition has not been released. Police located the suspect near the intersection of North Claiborne Avenue and Elysian Fields Avenue, according to the same report. No motive for the shooting has been determined, per the outlet’s reporting.
The Shooting and Arrest Locations
The 1500 block of Kerlerec Street is in the 7th Ward, while North Claiborne and Elysian Fields meet at an intersection. Police located a suspect near that intersection after the shooting, according to the report.
The available reports do not say whether surveillance cameras or license plate readers were used in the investigation. The shooting report identifies the 1500 block of Kerlerec Street as the location, but does not identify the NOPD district responsible for it.

And just weeks ago, an overnight shooting near North Claiborne Avenue and Laharpe Street in the 7th Ward left three people wounded, a pattern Hoodline covered in its report on a multi-victim overnight shooting along the same corridor.
