San Antonio homeless shelters seek donations to cover Friday storm damage

Haven for Hope, San Antonio’s largest homeless shelter and resource center, is relying on temporary air conditioners and portable fans to cool down parts of its 22-acre campus after a violent storm tore through San Antonio last week.

High winds a week ago sent large spans of AC ductwork flying across the near West Side campus and shifted massive rooftop units on several buildings, damaging them. Nobody was injured, but Haven for Hope’s power was out from Friday night, Aug. 28, through the following day.

Air conditioning remains spotty across the campus a week later. Nearly every AC unit is back online, but many of them aren’t running at full capacity…
