In the city that was the home to the “Father of Labor Day”, Labor Day traditions remain strong, including the annual 11th Congressional District and Community Caucus Labor Day parade and festival. The 54th annual celebration is set for Monday.
The Labor Day tradition began in 1890 when John Patterson Green who was from Cleveland wrote and introduced the bill while serving in the Ohio House of Representatives that established Labor Day as an Ohio holiday. Congress made it a national holiday four years later.
This year’s parade and festival gets underway at 11 a.m. at East 147th Street and Kinsman Road. It includes local vendors, politicians, labor unions and 135 community organizations…
