BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Niagara County residents gathered in Niagara Falls Saturday to voice their concerns about the mishandling of toxic waste on their properties.

Resident group Save Our Backyards WNY said that the demonstration was organized to demand immediate action from state and federal officials in the form of full transparency, permanent relocation for affected families, and Superfund designation.
“We’re coming together to spread the word that all of Niagara County is toxic; our government has known about it forever, this is nothing new, its buried all across here, either chemicals or radioactive material, and we’ve had enough of it,” Town of Niagara resident and Save Our Backyards WNY leader Lexi Hawk said.
Jocelyn McKiernan and her family, who live on 99th Street about 300 feet away from the Love Canal Superfund site in Niagara Falls, are seeking relocation after industrial waste was discovered on their property.
