A Greek Air Force jet crashed during an air show north of Athens on Saturday, sending thick black smoke billowing into the sky in front of thousands of spectators. The twin-seat Phantom F4 aircraft went down at the Athens Flying Week event held at Tanagra Air Force Base.
Officials have not yet confirmed whether the pilots were able to eject safely before the crash. Fortunately, there were no immediate reports of injuries among those watching the show.
A helicopter equipped for water drops was dispatched to the scene to help control the resulting fire on the ground. The investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing.
