PIEDMONT TRIAD (WGHP) — Storms are quickly popping up across the Piedmont Triad this afternoon, with several ongoing severe thunderstorm warnings across the region. A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect for the entire FOX8 viewing area until 8 p.m. on Saturday.
The best chance for severe thunderstorms in the majority of the Triad is from now until 6 p.m., with decreasing chances into the late evening hours. The main concern this afternoon and evening is for damaging downburst winds, significant lightning and even isolated large hail.

Damaging downburst winds occurred in the Pleasant Garden area on Friday night and there is potential for this to happen again somewhere in the Triad this afternoon and evening.
It is of utmost importance that notifications are turned on for severe thunderstorm warnings this afternoon. Keeping an eye on radar is also a very good idea if you’ll be out and about.
