NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Pumpkin-flavored everything is here, and that means fall is right around the corner! We know the days will get shorter and eventually temperatures will get cooler, but what will this fall be like in the Volunteer State?
The first day of Fall is Sept. 22, but meteorological fall began on Sept. 1. Meteorological fall is September, October and November, making it easy to compare weather data from year to year. For this fall outlook, we will be focusing on meteorological fall.
The Climate Prediction Center has issued its Fall Outlook, and they are forecasting above-average temperatures being more likely than not, and near and slightly above average rainfall.
The Climate Prediction Center’s forecast is likely influenced by the strong El Niño that we are currently experiencing. El Niño has a significant impact on our winter weather and on Hurricane Season. But does it have an impact on our weather in the fall?
Remember, El Niño is when the sea surface temperatures in the eastern Pacific are warmer than normal. The current El Niño we are experiencing is strong and expected to continue to strengthen into the fall and winter.
