Resonant, the upscale Oregon District restaurant at 524 E. Fifth St. in Dayton, will be closed this weekend after its dining-room ceiling collapsed. The closure comes just 11 weeks after the highly anticipated restaurant opened its doors, and its owners say they are currently expecting to reopen on Wednesday.
The restaurant announced the closure via a social media post showcasing the ceiling damage, according to Dayton Daily News staff writer Alex Cutler. Resonant said it will contact weekend reservation holders about rebooking, per that same post. The restaurant is expected to reopen Wednesday.
A Fine-Dining Debut Cut Short
Resonant opened earlier in summer 2026 as an upscale addition to Dayton’s Oregon District, aiming to bring elegant, multi-course dining to the area. The restaurant was created by Patrick and Casey Van Voorhis, the couple behind Grist, their handcrafted pasta restaurant on West Fifth Street that built a local following on dishes made with fresh eggs from a family farm, per wellfd. Grist remains open and unaffected by the ceiling collapse.
The Van Voorhises officially opened Resonant to guests on June 18, 2026, according to a report from Rockin’ Real Estate with Regina. The sudden ceiling failure is especially jarring for a restaurant so early in its service.
