90s Metal Band YOB Cancels Upcoming Shows Due to Lead Singer’s Health Issues
Veteran metal trio YOB has announced the cancellation of several scheduled performances this fall following health complications suffered by frontman Mike Scheidt. The band, known for their heavy, atmospheric sound and active since the late 1990s, had been slated to appear at multiple festivals and headline shows in the coming months.
Most notably, YOB will no longer perform at RippleFest Texas on September 18. In a candid video update posted on social media, Scheidt revealed he is experiencing nerve damage caused by cervical spinal stenosis-a condition where calcium deposits compress nerves in the neck.
He described symptoms including severe pain and impaired function in his left arm and hand, which prompted medical evaluation and an upcoming consultation with a neurologist. Surgery is likely necessary, though it is expected to be minimally invasive.
The health setback also affects YOB’s October dates, including their appearance at the Soulcrusher festival in the Netherlands, a headlining show at Saint Vitus Bar in Brooklyn, New York, and a collaboration performance with Smoke The Fuzz in Greece.
Fans and fellow musicians have responded with an outpouring of support and well wishes. RippleFest’s official account expressed hope for Scheidt’s swift recovery, emphasizing the festival’s solidarity with the band.
Despite the cancellations, YOB remains optimistic about the future. They teased upcoming projects and hinted at exciting announcements ahead, including the release of a new album-marking their first new music since 2018’s critically acclaimed Our Raw Heart.
