Veteran journalist Maria Bartiromo may have quickly found a new opportunity following her recent departure from Fox News.
On Tuesday, September 3, Fox announced that Bartiromo, 58, would no longer be with the network, ending her role as host of Mornings with Maria Bartiromo. Since then, reports have emerged that she is in discussions with CBS News, potentially for a role that could include a spot on the iconic program 60 Minutes. These talks are said to involve CBS News’ recently appointed Editor-in-Chief Bari Weiss, who took over the position in October 2025 amid notable internal changes at the network.
An insider close to the situation revealed that Bartiromo is intent on continuing her broadcasting career and is eager to remain a significant figure in the industry. “Maria isn’t sitting around licking her wounds.
She’s moving fast, and 60 Minutes is absolutely in the mix. She wants to remain a major player,” the source said.
The insider also emphasized Bartiromo’s valuable connections: “Maria brings something Bari understands is valuable: access. She can get CEOs, billionaires, political power players, and Wall Street titans on the phone.
You don’t throw away a Rolodex like that.” The source added that Bartiromo believes she still belongs “at the biggest table in television,” and there is no bigger platform than 60 Minutes.
Fox’s announcement was abrupt, with the network immediately renaming her morning show to Mornings With Fox Business. Bartiromo, known for her vocal support of Donald Trump, reportedly became embroiled in controversy after allegedly leaking text messages to the White House.
These messages concerned network instructions not to repeat Trump’s election conspiracy theories following his July primetime address, during which he claimed that China interfered in the 2020 election. Fox had decided not to air the speech live or cover it the next day to avoid potential legal risks.
While Bartiromo’s legal team denies she was fired, rumors have circulated that she may be considered for the role of White House Press Secretary after Karoline Leavitt’s departure, though no official confirmation has been made.
Representatives for Maria Bartiromo have yet to comment on these developments.
