A pedestrian died early Monday after being struck by two separate cars while crossing Bardstown Road in a crosswalk near Goldsmith Lane in Louisville. Police say both drivers had green lights when they hit the man, and neither is expected to face charges.
Louisville Metro Police were called to the scene shortly after 6 a.m., according to WLKY. An SUV struck the man first, and a second car hit him a short time later; both drivers had green lights and both stopped and remained at the scene. The man died from his injuries, and LMPD’s traffic unit is now investigating the cause of the crash.
Both drivers are cooperating with investigators, and the station reports that charges are not expected to be filed against either one. The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office has not yet released the man’s identity, saying it will do so only after his next of kin has been notified.
A Crosswalk With a Deadly History
This is not the first fatal crash at this exact spot. In September 2019, 48-year-old Melissa Jean Whitehead was struck and killed by an SUV while crossing Bardstown Road at Goldsmith Lane in a crosswalk under similar circumstances, according to WHAS11.
