HORRY COUNTY, S.C. (WBTW) — Some beach rules for Horry County municipalities are set to change after Labor Day, including the use of bicycles, pets and umbrellas.
MYRTLE BEACH
Starting Tuesday through April 30, dogs are allowed on the beach at any time of day. Also starting Tuesday through April 30, dogs and bicycles are allowed on the boardwalk at any time.
Tents and canopies up to 12-by-12 square feet are allowed after Labor Day. Umbrellas must be in line with or behind the lifeguards’ line of umbrellas or landward of the mean high tide line. Tents and canopies must be 10 feet behind the umbrella line.
NORTH MYRTLE BEACH
The city allows dogs and bicycles on the beach at any time after Labor Day until May 15. Surfboarding and skimboarding are also permitted at the city’s beaches after the holiday.
SURFSIDE BEACH
Leashed dogs will be allowed on the town’s beaches after Labor Day and until May 1. Horses and other large animals are not allowed on the beach. Surf fishing is also allowed at any time between Labor Day and May 1.
Bonfires and grills of any kind are not allowed at any time on the beach.
HORRY COUNTY
Horry County is responsible for about 9 miles of public beaches along the Grand Strand, including just south of city limits of North Myrtle Beach to the Dunes Club in Myrtle Beach — including Shore Drive but excluding the town of Briarcliff Acres — south of Springmaid Pier to the town limits of Surfside Beach including the campgrounds, and south of the town limits of Surfside Beach through Garden City Beach to the Georgetown county line…
