HONOLULU (KHON2) — Hawaiʻi County Civil Defense said a High Surf Warning, High Surf Advisory and a Flood Watch remain in effect through Tuesday, Sept. 8, for Hawaiʻi Island.
The High Surf Warning covers all south and west facing shores, while a High Surf Advisory covers east facing shores. Officials said surf may increase through today and other beach parks may close without notice.

With high surf and possible flooding, Civil Defense advised:
- Avoid entering the ocean under these life threatening conditions.
- Those with shoreline property and boats in high surf areas should take necessary precautions.
- Residence in flood prone areas, be on the alert for flooding conditions and take action to safeguard life and property.
- Do not cross flowing water in a vehicle or on foot. Turn around, don’t drown.

Officials said the following County Park & Recreation facilities remain closed:
- Mahukona Wharf.
- Hōnaunau Boat Ramp.
- Hō‘okena Beach Park.
- Kahaluʻu Beach Park.
- Laʻaloa Beach Park.
- Old A’s Strip.
- Kohanaiki Beach Park.
