ROCKFORD, Mich. (WOOD) — A long Labor Day weekend gave Michiganders one more chance to soak up some of the last bits of summer sun along the lakeshore.
But beachgoers started making their way home Monday to start the work week. Major highways around West Michigan stayed busy, including southbound US-131 which brought travelers to the Rockford Rest Area where News 8 caught up with drivers on their treks back from Traverse City, Mackinac Island and West Branch.
Despite the high costs, the pumps also stayed busy throughout the weekend. Drivers did see a small drip in gas prices compared to earlier in the summer but their wallets didn’t get much of a break with those prices still sitting at an average of $4.06 in Michigan, a record high for Labor Day weekend…
