Target shoppers among those bracing for new flat fee at self checkout – and total ban by 2030

TARGET shoppers are among many customers set to be hit with a higher flat fee at the checkout under new rules approved by local officials.

The change will steadily rise over the next few years before one everyday item is banned altogether in 2030.

Shoppers in Oak Park, Illinois, will have to pay 15 cents for every single-use plastic or paper bag they take from January 1, 2027.

The village currently charges 10 cents per bag at retailers, including Target, but officials have agreed to hike the levy by another five cents each year through 2029…
