New Orleans restaurant keeps ‘steak night’ in spite of record price for beef

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — If you ordered the weekly steak dinner at Katie’s Restaurant in Mid-City in 2024, you’d get a filet plus a salad, a potato, a side vegetable, a white chocolate bread pudding and a martini — all for $29.95.

Today, the meal still includes those extras, but the price is $39.95, a $10 jump in just two years.

Katie’s owner, Scot Craig, said the increase is based on several higher restaurant costs, but mostly the record-high price of beef. According to Beef Price Tracker, steaks cost 20% more today than they did a year ago, and ground beef is up even more, 23% higher than last year…
