HOUSTON, TX — A knife-wielding patient was shot multiple times by security guards inside the emergency room at Memorial Hermann Memorial City Medical Center after a struggle over the weapon, according to Houston police.
Police said the man, described as being in his early 30s, had been admitted to the hospital after experiencing a mental health crisis. He was placed in a secluded room in the back of the emergency department around 6 p.m. Saturday.
Hours later, shortly before 9 p.m., police said he pulled out a knife and refused repeated requests to drop it. The man was later treated after being shot, and Houston police said the investigation is continuing.
