The Spokane County Commission will vote on a proposed expansion of curbside recycling services for around 2,500 of the region’s more rural residents. The proposal would extend existing boundaries to encompass neighborhoods near Medical Lake, Liberty Lake and Seven Mile, among others.
Lindsey Chapman, solid waste administrator for the county, told the commissioners that it would be the first expansion since 2018. The county sets standards of service for local trash haulers within its jurisdiction, Waste Management Services and Sunshine Disposal. The companies will have until April 2027 to provide all customers within the new boundaries with recycling service if the amendment is approved.
Zach Stavros, an account executive with Waste Management, said the company looks forward to bringing recycling services to more customers. “It’s been about eight years since these were expanded; those lines were pushed out to fields and those fields are mostly now neighborhoods,” Stavros said…
