At the Harborview Bar & Lounge, Josephine Tin makes every guest feel like family.
“How could you not make people happy when you work here?” says Josephine “Jo” Tin, as she gestures toward the panoramic windows of the Harborview Restaurant & Lounge. On the 15th floor of the Holiday Inn Charleston-Riverview (known by locals as the “round Holiday Inn”), the lounge overlooks a sweeping expanse of Lowcountry landmarks that include the Ashley River, marshland, and harbor. Even after 13 years behind the bar, Tin says she never tires of that view.
Tin flashes her signature grin as she shows off an iPhone grid of sunset photos and videos of fireworks over the nearby ballpark. “I set my phone up in the window during service,” says Tin with a laugh. “I don’t stand here all night with my phone.”
It’s not only the scenery that keeps Tin at her job. It’s also the people who visit the bar, whether they are hotel guests, employees from the nearby medical university, or Lowcountry residents who have visited since the early 1970s…
