PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (CBS12) — About 800 gallons of untreated wastewater spilled from a Port St. Lucie lift station Tuesday after the station lost full electrical power, according to a pollution notice filed with the Florida Department of Environmental Protection.
Utility staff discovered sewage escaping from the wet well lid at the WP-22 lift station at 170 SW Hawthorne Circle at about 11 a.m. during weekly station checks, the notice said.
The wastewater was flowing onto the station driveway and a nearby swale at an estimated rate of 10 gallons per minute, according to the report. Staff determined the station was not receiving full FPL line power, reported the outage and deployed a backup generator to restart the pumps…
