AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) – The Texas Department of Transportation Amarillo District released updates on multiple safety enhancement projects currently ongoing through the area, including along I-27, FM 2590 (Soncy Road), Business I-40, and FM 1541 (Washington Street).
The project along I-27 aims to expand the road to six lanes between Amarillo and Canyon. Crews recently performed multiple traffic switches as concrete paving operations were completed from McCormick Road to Country Club Road.
TxDOT noted the $312 million I-27 project is expected to be completed by the end of 2028.
Another project focuses on FM 2590 (Soncy Road), installing turn lanes and signals from State Loop 335 to US 60 in Canyon.
TxDOT said crews completed the initial traffic light phase at the FM 2219/Lair Road intersection, and signal lights were installed at the Hunsley Road intersection earlier this year.
