HONOLULU, HI – After a five set battle against nationally ranked Baylor the night prior, the Rainbow Wāhine returned to the Bankoh Arena looking to close out the Hawaiian Airlines Volleyball Classic on a high note. San Diego had their own plans, sweeping Hawai‘i 25-16, 25-17, 25-18 on Sunday.
The Toreros wasted no time taking control, jumping out to an early lead in the first set and forcing the ‘Bows to play back. Their attack and defense kept creating problems for Hawai‘i, hitting .266 with nine blocks and six aces.
Hawai‘i tried to answer throughout the match, but never seemed to find their rhythm. Cha’lei Reid led the offense with 11 kills, while Victoria Leyva anchored the defense with 10 digs.
San Diego took the lead early in the first set, and a 9-0 run propelled what was a commanding lead. The ‘Bows tried to chip away at the lead, but the Toreros had every answer, and closed the set 25-16…
