Residents urged to help locate emu that disappeared from owner’s property

A 3-foot-tall female emu disappeared on the evening of Sept. 4, and the owner is asking East Texas residents to help find the bird.

The owner, Erin Summerlin, said the emu was last seen near FM 450, the Highlands neighborhood, around Buchanan Road, Young Road, Buchanan Road and Noonday Road East.

Summerlin said security footage suggests a few younger people riding a side-by-side vehicle might have coaxed the emu through a fence and off the owner’s property. The 3-month-old bird had never been separated from her brother or the rest of the flock before disappearing…
