Remembering “Band of Brothers” 25 Years Later: A New Documentary Debuts on HBO Max
The acclaimed miniseries Band of Brothers first aired on HBO on September 9, 2001-just two days before the tragic events of 9/11. Now, a quarter-century later, creators Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks are commemorating the landmark show with a new documentary.
Original Cast Reunites for “Band of Brothers: Legacy”
HBO Max is releasing Band of Brothers: Legacy today, the exact anniversary of the original premiere. The documentary features new interviews with key cast members including Damian Lewis, Ron Livingston, Michael Cudlitz, David Schwimmer, and military advisor Capt.
Dale Dye. Alongside these fresh insights, viewers will see previously unseen archival footage and photographs of the real Easy Company soldiers, as well as behind-the-scenes stories about the making of the series.
Produced by Playtone-the same company behind the original miniseries-with Hanks and Gary Goetzman serving as executive producers, the documentary is directed by Chase Millsap, a former Army Special Forces soldier.
In addition to the film, HBO Max is adding new content to the Band of Brothers series page, including video diaries from Ron Livingston and Richard Speight Jr., as well as a special collection titled In the Company of Heroes.
Honoring the Real Heroes of Easy Company
Band of Brothers follows Easy Company, part of the 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment of the 101st Airborne Division, through their journey from training in Georgia to the final days of World War II in Germany. The ten-episode series was based on Stephen E. Ambrose’s 1992 book and earned numerous Emmy Awards in 2002, setting a high standard for war dramas that followed.
The creators’ goal was to ensure that the bravery and sacrifices of Easy Company would not be forgotten. Now, 25 years later, the series itself has become an important piece of historical storytelling.
Stay tuned for more commemorations and retrospectives as we continue to honor the legacy of Band of Brothers and those who served.
