The North Carolina Coastal Counties Fisheries Coalition presented its work to county leaders from across the state during an Aug. 21 panel discussion at the North Carolina Association of County Commissioners Annual Conference in Durham.
The session, titled “North Carolina Coastal Counties Fisheries Coalition: Strength Through Regional Partnership,” addressed challenges facing the state’s commercial fishing industry and coastal communities. Panelists also discussed how counties can work together to draw attention to shared concerns and strengthen their collective voice with the North Carolina General Assembly and other state leaders.
“Counties are stronger when we work together,” said Dare County Board of Commissioners Chairman Bob Woodard, who also chairs the fisheries coalition. “One county can raise an issue, but when counties come together with a shared message, we have a much stronger voice in Raleigh. That’s what we’ve seen with the fisheries coalition, and it’s a model that can work for other issues that affect counties across our state.”…
