LEXINGTON, Ky. (FOX 56) — For more than six decades, Magee’s Bakery was a fixture in downtown Lexington. Three years ago, though, the ovens went cold.
Then, in June, owner Greg Higgins announced plans to fire those ovens up again, hoping to reopen by the fall. But that timeline has changed as Higgins faces more challenges than expected getting the bakery back up and running.

“I didn’t close because I didn’t like to bake. I closed because the model wasn’t working,” Higgins told FOX 56.
That model, like many bakeries, involved waking up hours before sunrise to make breads, pastries and dozens of other items before customers even walked through the door…
