SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KY3) – Springfield police can now launch drones to some 911 calls from two rooftop docks operating around the clock.
How the program works
The docks are located at police headquarters and at Fire Station 9. About 40 to 50 trained pilots can launch the drones remotely, sending them directly to an address without a pilot standing on the rooftop.
Maj. Eric Reece, with the Springfield Police Department, said the drone flies itself to the location and records video for officers who are on the way.
“The drone then will fly itself to the address that we entered. And then it will start recording and relaying video back to incoming officers so that they know what is going on on the scene,” Reece said…
