Henry Winkler, the beloved star of the classic series Happy Days, has been active in the entertainment industry for over five decades-and he shows no signs of stepping away anytime soon.
In a recent episode of In Depth With Graham Bensinger aired on September 9, the 80-year-old actor opened up about why retirement isn’t on his horizon.
Bensinger shared a humorous remark from his daughter Zoe, who suggested, “Honestly, I think my dad believes that if he stops working, he will die.” Winkler, however, clarified that his motivation runs deeper than that.
“I don’t necessarily think about dying because I truly love being alive,” Winkler explained. “What I worry about is withering away-like drying up into a prune, the last leaf blowing off a tree in the fall.”
Known to generations as Arthur “The Fonz” Fonzarelli from the 1970s sitcom, Winkler confessed, “I love my job. I feel like I’m in heaven when I’m working.”
Throughout his remarkable career, Winkler has appeared in memorable films such as The Waterboy and Scream, as well as acclaimed television shows including Barry and Arrested Development. With three Emmy Awards and two Golden Globe Awards to his name, Winkler’s passion for acting continues to fuel his enduring success as he approaches his 81st birthday this October.
