BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — The driver in the I-90 tour bus crash that killed five people and injured dozens more will avoid further jail time.
Bin Shao was the driver of the bus that crashed on the Thruway on Aug. 22, 2025 while the bus was traveling from Niagara Falls to New York City. He was sentenced in Genesee County Court on Wednesday to five years of shock probation and six months in jail, but was credited for seven months of time served. He had faced anywhere from one and one-third to four years in prison.
Shao lost control of the bus on the highway near Pembroke while bending down to pick up a water bottle. The bus overturned and ended up in a ditch. A total of 54 people were on the bus – all 49 survivors suffered at least minor injuries…
