MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (WCBD) – Communities across the Lowcountry will gather this week for ceremonies and memorial events commemorating 25 years since the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.
On the morning of Sept. 11, 2001, 19 al-Qaeda terrorists hijacked four commercial airliners. Two planes were flown into the World Trade Center’s Twin Towers in New York City, a third struck the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia, and a fourth crashed near Shanksville, Pennsylvania, after passengers fought back against the hijackers.
A total of 2,977 victims were killed in the attacks, not including the 19 hijackers…
