We’ve covered stories about car thieves in the past, but one carjacker in Louisiana was much more brazen than most. Two women, aged 68 and 69, were in the middle of loading groceries when a 47-year-old man jumped into their vehicle. The man managed to flee the scene, thinking that he would get away with the crime. But he was soon tracked by seven different police departments as he sped down the highway.
Seven police departments were involved in the pursuit of the carjacker
On September 7 at around 1:14 p.m., officers responded to a reported carjacking where a man, later identified as 47-year-old Michael Dupuis Jr., had stolen the vehicle from two seniors while they were loading groceries outside of a Piggly Wiggly, according to a post by the Rayne Police Department on its official Facebook page.
The officers learned that Dupuis, also known as “T-MIKE,” had entered the vehicle in broad daylight and used physical force to push away the 68-year-old woman as she tried to pull him from the car. The man was able to steal the vehicle along with the victims’ possessions that were inside, including their purses and other belongings.
After being observed going eastbound on U.S. Highway 90, multiple law enforcement agencies were notified. Officers from the Duson Police Department located the stolen vehicle and attempted to bring the car to a stop, but Dupuis refused to slow down and led police from multiple jurisdictions on a pursuit through Lafayette Parish and then St. Martin Parish…
