ST. LOUIS – A heat advisory has been posted for the southern and southeastern portions of the FOX 2 viewing area for today, where top heat index values are forecast to reach 105 degrees. This does not include St. Louis proper, but it does include the southeast metro counties of St. Clair and Monroe in Illinois. This will be the last of the truly high heat for a while.
Later today, a cold front slipping in from the north will kick off scattered showers and thunderstorms. Some isolated, small showers and thundershowers are possible at any point today, but the greater coverage of storms — some with gusty winds and very heavy rain — will come after 4 p.m. and into the evening.
The risk of rain and storms will then continue overnight and into Thursday morning. The concern for any potential severe storms will be limited to late this afternoon and this evening, with top concerns coming from wind gusts of 40 to 60 miles per hour.
