AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – An Augusta committee approved Solicitor General Omeeka Loggins’ request to restore $47,920 cut from her office’s 2026 budget. The item now goes to the full commission next week for final approval. In a separate committee item, commissioners pulled a proposed water park feasibility study and moved it to next week’s commission meeting.
Solicitor general’s budget restored at committee level
Commissioners said the decision on Loggins’ request should not be interpreted as “opening the floodgates” for every Augusta department that received a budget cut to return and ask for its money back. Commissioners considered Loggins’ situation a valid concern because of the specific operating expenses affected.
Loggins opened her presentation by saying her office is “budget blocked,” meaning she has no more money available to spend from the affected operating budget. She told commissioners she cannot currently send court notices, mail subpoenas, order file folders, buy paper or cover other basic expenses needed to process cases. She said once the paper and supplies currently in the office run out, “that’s it” unless commissioners restore funding.
How much was cut
Loggins said the 2026 budget required $47,920 in reductions from her office. She said she worked with Administrator Tameka Allen’s team earlier this year to try to make those reductions work.
Loggins said the cuts hit operating expenses that aren’t optional because many are tied directly to legal requirements for prosecuting cases. She said she knew when the reductions were made that the numbers would be difficult and warned at the time that she might have to return to commissioners for more money…
