Lessons from Sept. 11 terror attacks ignored, Muslim and security analysts say

DEARBORN — Imad Hamad was a passenger on a plane that circled Washington, D.C., on Sept. 11, 2001, waiting for a chance to land following the terrorist attacks that killed 3,000 people.

Valuable lessons learned that day have since been lost in a fog of hateful rhetoric and violence, he said.

“After Sept. 11, the message everyone heard was unity. We are all Americans. United we stand,” said Hamad, a Lebanese immigrant and director of the Dearborn civil rights nonprofit American Human Rights Council. “But nowadays, if I were to judge it through the eyes of people of Muslim faith, I’d say we’re not just back to square one — we’ve pushed beyond that.”…
