OAK RIDGE, Tenn. (WATE) — Billions of dollars in nuclear investment planned for the Oak Ridge area are expected to create thousands of jobs in the coming years, bringing new opportunities for East Tennessee workers while also raising questions about whether the region has enough trained workers and housing to support the growth.
Oak Ridge Corridor Development Corporation President Mike Magill said more than 5,000 new permanent jobs related to the growing industry are expected across the region over the next several years.
“I think right now some of the biggest gaps are in project management,” Magill said. “But then there’s a lot in some of the blue-collar work in machining, welding, a lot of construction jobs are moving into the area.”…
