Car title mix-up leaves Polk County man in limbo while trying to sell

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Jalen Gaskins takes pride in his car. So after making the final payment on his six-year auto loan, he decided to sell the vehicle privately.

He found a buyer, and the sale appeared to be going smoothly.

Then Gaskins went to the DMV to transfer the title to the new owner and discovered a problem.

After Gaskins paid off his loan, the title was transferred, but not into his name. Instead, he said DMV records showed the vehicle’s title had been transferred to Carvana, a dealership he said he has never done business with.
