Celebrating the legacy of the historic Central Avenue corridor in South Los Angeles, the 31st annual Central Avenue Jazz Festival will take place Saturday, Sept. 19, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
The free, family-friendly event pays tribute to jazz greats while highlighting emerging artists continuing the distinctly American art form. Grammy-winning percussionist and composer Sheila E. leads a lineup of musicians honoring jazz history while forging new creative paths.
Scheduled performers include saxophonist Isaiah Collier presenting “Collier Plays Coltrane,” a spiritual reimagining of John Coltrane’s music, and guitarist Fresha, also known as Frescia Belmar, who portrayed lead guitarist Jennifer Batten in the 2026 Michael Jackson biographical film “Michael.”…
