Grant to support Shreveport families building savings

SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS) – More Shreveport families could soon have help building savings while working toward financial independence.

The Housing Authority of Shreveport-Bossier has received over $182,000 dollars in grant funds from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to continue its family self-sufficiency program through the end of the year.

The voluntary program is open to housing choice voucher participants only, which now serves more than 100 local families. As a participant’s income increases, part of that growth can be placed into an escrow account. Once they successfully complete the program, families can use those funds for goals like buying a home or paying down debt…
