ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) – Weeks after a reported oil spill could not be found by state regulators in the waters near Anchorage, a new oily sheen popped up Wednesday morning during a deliberate test by the state’s top oil and gas company.
The original sheen was first reported Aug. 24 when a pilot flying over Cook Inlet spotted what appeared to be a five-mile stretch of oil about five miles south of Tyonek.
Alaska’s state environmental agency initially said the spill was on the west side of the inlet, roughly 45 to 50 miles southwest of Anchorage, but later said it did not find any sign of a spill, let alone the source of it…
