Deputy put in chokehold during Berkeley County traffic stop; Ladson man arrested

MONCKS CORNER, S.C. (WCIV) — A Ladson man was arrested after authorities said he put a deputy in a chokehold while trying to flee a traffic stop in Berkeley County.

“This incident is another reminder of how quickly a traffic stop can turn dangerous for our deputies,” Sheriff Duane Lewis said. “There is no such thing as a routine traffic stop and our deputies never know what they will encounter during a traffic stop.”
