MT. JULIET, Tenn. (WKRN) — A traffic stop for speeding and a seatbelt violation in Mt. Juliet Thursday led to the discovery of a passenger with a stolen weapon and suspected drugs, as well as a driver wanted out of another county, according to law enforcement.
The stop took place along Interstate 40 East on Thursday, Sept. 10. The Mt. Juliet Police Department said the officer approached the vehicle and saw a 34-year-old Nashville man in the backseat with a handgun in his right hand, so the officer worked to safely disarm the passenger.
According to authorities, the man later said he was trying to hide the gun in his waistband and didn’t realize the officer was approaching.
