Oktoberfest season arrives in the Bay Area with a thunder of oompah bands, polka and pretzel dance action.
Originally, and eponymously, a community wedding celebration in October of 1810 for a Bavarian crown prince and princess, the annual event in Munich is scheduled from Sept. 19 through Oct. 4, while local celebrations officially kick-off in downtown San Francisco on Sept. 18 with the city’s annual Oktoberfest on Front Street party.
There will be plenty of cold beer on tap, but also family-friendly cultural activities, games and carnival rides, warm pretzels, brats, gingerbread hearts and more. It’s time to raise a glass and lift spirits with “Ein Prosit der Gemütlichkeit” — a musical toast to good feelings…
