A fatal two-vehicle crash shut down all lanes of Interstate 65 South in Bullitt County for several hours Wednesday, with Shepherdsville Police Chief Steve Schmidt confirming the collision near the 114.8 mile marker turned deadly. The highway reopened to southbound traffic around 8 p.m. after hours of gridlock.
The crash happened around 4:22 p.m. near the 114.8 mile marker, according to TRIMARC, the regional traffic monitoring agency that tracks Louisville-area interstates around the clock. As reported by WLKY, Chief Schmidt did not disclose how many people were hurt or killed in the wreck, which involved at least two vehicles.
TRIMARC reported the crash blocked both travel lanes and both shoulders of I-65 South, effectively sealing off the corridor near Shepherdsville. Separately, the Shepherdsville Police Department told WDRB that no other injuries were reported beyond the fatality in the collision near mile marker 114.8 and Ohm Drive.
