On the eve of 9/11, reactions to how the World Trade Center has changed

NEW YORK (PIX11) — On the eve of the ceremony marking 25 years since the 9/11 attacks, the mood in Lower Manhattan was decidedly bittersweet.

As the 16-acre World Trade Center and 9/11 Memorial campus prepares for Friday’s somber ceremony, there was no shortage of people at the site appreciating how far it’s come in a quarter century.

Santos Quinones is a Bronx resident who works near the Trade Center in Lower Manhattan. He said that he’s impressed daily by various changes on the WTC campus, but as the 25 year milestone approaches, the contrast with Ground Zero in 2001 is both striking and emotional.

“The way they reconstructed it is amazing,” he said. “Despite of it bringing back bad memories, it brings light to New York City.”…
