LANE COUNTY, Ore. – A hiker who fell and got hurt on a lava rock butte near Melakwa Lake was rescued and flown to a hospital on Saturday, according to the Lane County Sheriff’s Office.
LCSO officials said Lane County Sheriff Search & Rescue got the call a little after 1 p.m. on Sept. 5 about someone injured on the butte north of Highway 242. Volunteers with Eugene Mountain Rescue headed out along with Linn County Sheriff Search & Rescue. Rescuers found the person and gave medical help until a helicopter could get there. The U.S. Coast Guard flew the patient to a local hospital for treatment.
