GREENSBORO, N.C. (WGHP) — David Garrett wasn’t entirely sure what he was about to do.
He was a young Greensboro firefighter who drove one of the trucks for Station 10 off Gate City Boulevard. A few months before, on the morning of Sept. 11, 2001, he and his colleagues were out on a chest pain call at a home where the TV was on.

“We were sitting there watching it happen,” he said. “You knew right there a lot of people lost their lives.”
