LANSING, Mich. (WLNS)– Construction on Michigan State University’s new Leinweber Center for Engineering and Digital Innovation plans to briefly paused today as university leaders, donors and students gather to mark a milestone in the facility’s development. Guests at the construction site will sign a ceremonial steel beam that will become part of the structure.
The project was initiated following the largest facility gift in university history, donated by 1964 Michigan State University graduate Larry Leinweber.
The center is designed to connect housing, classrooms and collaborative spaces focused on artificial intelligence, quantum technology, advanced manufacturing, semiconductors and autonomous systems.
The ceremony will take place on the active construction site on the East Lansing campus, near the southwest corner of North Shaw Lane and Red Cedar Road. MSU says key speakers Michigan State University President Kevin Guskiewicz, members of The Board of Trustees and more are scheduled to speak at 2:45 p.m. after the beam signing.
Construction on the Leinweber Center is scheduled for completion in 2028…
