Sewerage & Water Board officials on Thursday said they erred in their slow repair of a water leak in the Lake Terrace neighborhood, causing an oak tree to collapse into a huge sink hole that destroyed the front yard of a residential property.
S&WB Executive Director Randy Hayman said that the agency’s crews were too slow to respond when they discovered a damaged pipe tangled in the tree’s roots on Killdeer Street, and that the agency’s customer service staff failed to notify superiors about the problem after residents repeatedly reported the tree faltering.
“What happened on Killdeer is not acceptable,” Hayman said. “We did not handle this properly.”…
