Supporters of Myrtle Beach’s unhoused community are holding a rally for area homeless people, who they say are facing escalating backlash and a serious lack of resources.
“We would really, really, really like to put more attention on the housing crisis that we’re having in Myrtle Beach, which is why we’re doing the rally, because it doesn’t seem to be that a lot of people, especially people in [Myrtle Beach City] Council, are doing enough to help protect one of the most vulnerable groups of people that we have in Myrtle Beach,” said organizer Ashlee Gahart, who leads Myrtle Beach Community Hub.
The rally, organized by the Myrtle Beach Community Hub, with support from Fresh Brewed Coffee House, will be held at Chapin Memorial Park from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 12. It comes roughly a month after Myrtle Beach Police arrested more than a dozen people – including a bipolar and schizophrenic woman reported missing by her family – outside of City Hall in a move critics say targeted the homeless population…
