The aircraft and its model were identified in coverage from the Henrico Citizen, which noted the drag strip was chosen specifically because it is not a traditional airport, illustrating how these planes are meant to operate on non-standard surfaces close to where people actually live and work. The U.S. Department of Transportation billed the Henrico stop as part of the first-ever program of its kind, according to a video posted by the U.S. Department of Transportation on Facebook, describing the effort as one designed to connect communities like never before.
The Sandston flight was one leg of a four-day, seven-stop tour across Virginia, simulating regional commuter travel that stretched from the National Capital Region through Newport News and into Henrico, as reported by 13News Now. The tour operated under the U.S. Department of Transportation and Federal Aviation Administration’s Advanced Air Mobility and eVTOL Integration Pilot Program, known as the eIPP.
